Abstract

Events
At an event, whether it's a charity auction or a wedding, it's the people that contribute the emotion to a scene. Unlike houses though, people move. Their emotion can be fleeting, and capturing this emotion is not easy. When I approach an individual or a group to ask if they'd mind if I take a photo, there's always 5 or 10 seconds while they gather themselves together, put down their drink, and pose for the camera. This is my favorite time to capture a photo. When one person in the group makes a joke to ease the tension of being in front of the camera. When a couple moves closer together, but glance at each other before they turn towards me. That's the moment you can see them for who they are. At an event, I try to blend into the background and allow the moments to present themselves. In my experience, interfering as little as possible in an event results in the most authentic images that capture the spirit of that time and place.
